Dr SIller, the initiator and long-term supervisor of our project, received the “Governor Award” from the Govenor of Punjab, Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar. Another award, posthumously for Ruth Pfau, is also a great honor.
In the afternoon, the Friends of the Senta Siller Design Centre organized a reception at the Al-hamra Art Gallery in honor of Dr. Senta Siller including an exhibition of handicrafts from the project, as well as works of art by Dr. Senta Siller.
Although she is known generally as the “Mother of Dolls” but she has worked in many different ways as well in her capacity as a graphic artist, as a businesswoman for children's clothing and toys, as a calligrapher, as the director of an art school.
The exhibition featured not only “Heikus”, translations of Japanese 17-character poems, the shortest type of poems in the world, but also posters from the year 2021, the global pandemic period, in which the work and contacts with Senta Siller continued inspite of the limitations.
The posters conveyed how active she still is!
Also interesting were the content of the which included references to Thatta Kedona, CAT and Tanto Mejor and three publications with Pakistani ISBN about SIller's general work, the catalog with Heikus and a compilation, which contains almost 1000 works from different areas from the years 1946 till 2021.
Proceeds from the sale of all items go directly to the women's projects.
