THATTA KEDONA on DACCHI bazar in LAHORE

Thatta Kedona is a handicrafts initiative. It is in the village Thatta Ghulamka Dhiroka, District Okara, Pakistan. It is showing its wonderful handmade dolls. It has many other colorful handicrafts. They are at the Daachi Arts & Crafts Exhibition in Lahore.
It started on the 2nd of March 2024 and ended on the 4th of March. These handicrafts depict the cultures and costumes of various regions across Pakistan. The German artist, designer, and anthropologist Dr. Senta Siller started it over 30 years ago. Thatta Kedona works under the local NGO Anjuman-e-Falah-e-Aama (AFA).

Success of NGOs due to Selflessness

An example of obviously excellent project work is the ThattaKedona project of the Anjuman-e-Falah-e-Aama in the village of Thatta Ghulamka Dhiroke in the district of Okara, Tehsil Gogera. The initiative began in the autumn of 1990 with a visit from Austrian graphic designer S.S. in the village.
The special thing about the project is that it is actually a self-help project, and that outside help was primarily selfless. In the daughter projects (see www. ...) of the ThattaKedona project, this peculiarity is also evident as well: The external participation depends upon whether something is drawn from a project, i.e. portion of the financial success. Comparisons with other projects show that volunteer can be found in projects, but they want (whether they have to, that is the crucial question) to be paid or financed . They give their time, but want to be rewarded! In the projects of S.S. The selflessness prevails, - which is the basis of long-term success. The local management of the NGO also does not live on the income, - a worldwide novelty and rarity in NGOs!

Thatta Kedona” shines at Daachi Arts and Crafts Exhibition

A three day grand cultural event ended successfully on Monday, 14th of November at Lahore Grande, after celebrating the rich and colourful Pakistani culture for three full days. Daachi Arts and Crafts Exhibition took place from 12th to 14th November and was organised by Daachi Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation, which was established in Lahore in 2010 and aims to preserve and promote the culture and heritage of Pakistan. The theme this year was “sustainable Lifestyle”.
There were dozens of stalls, where exhibitors presented the vast variety of their handmade objects ranging from carpets, shawls, clothes, bags and shoes to wall hangings, decoration pieces, salt lamps and recycled paper.
“Thatta Kedona” - a project of Anjuman-e-Falah-e-Aama based in the village “Thatta Ghulamka Dhiroka”, District Okara, was one of the most prominent exhibitors at this exhibition. Amidst the clay pots, truck art themed souvenirs, handmade jewelry, bags and clothes, “Thatta Kedona” was presenting its colourful village toys, including stuffed dolls adorned in traditional clothes, adorable little earrings with tiny traditional dolls hanging from them, and similar miniature finger puppets and pencil holders.
Farzana Zahoor, representing “Thatta Kedona” told that the participation at this festival was a big success for the project. She said that the visitors were not only interested in different types of ethnic dolls but also in tin toys such as mini rikshaws and mini trucks.
Daachi Foundation is successfully promoting the rich Pakistani heritage, the incredible talent of the indigenous craftsmen and their remarkable local crafts. “Thatta Kedona” is looking forward to the next Daachi Exhibition, which will take place in April 2017.

Thatta Kedona at DAACHI Exhibition 2016

Thatta Kedona participated in the DAACHI Exhibition 2016 held from 16 to 18 April 2016 at the Lahore Grande (near Gymkhana), every day from 10am to 8pm. Large number of interested people visited Thatta Kedona Stall.
Cultural toys and dolls of Thatta Kedona were highly appreciated the organizers as well as the exhibitors, who said that they were missing the beautiful handicrafts from Thatta Ghulamka Dheroka for quite a while now.
Many visitors were astonished to see the fine quality of the items, produced at the Women Art Center in the village. With the passage of time many entrepreneurs have started copying the “Thatta Kedona” products but their products lack the acuteness and fineness of the products that were created under the guidance of Dr. Senta Siller, the German lady, who started this project back in 1993.

University Students Come to TGD

Once again students from the University of the Punjab University visited the village TGD in order to obtain an impression about the life in rural area. They spent time in the building of the NGO as well as traditional mud houses.
As usual, the FPAC sponsored the purchase of books and pencils for school children at the start of the school year in the village school. The FPAC promotes education in the rural areas with emphasis on TGD as well a project for students of civil engineering, who should not only learn theoretically about mud architecture but also work actively with mud in given structures.
