Culture is a Basic Need

One Baby One Tree - 2016

Each year, AFA (the village NGO) celebrates spring in a unique way. Thanks to senior German Volunteers who gather in Thatta Kedona Ghulamka Dheroka (aka Dolls Village) and arrange a colourful get together where sapling of decorative and floral trees are distributed among the residents. The local land is very fertile and the trees bloom in the village all round the year.

Result: each home has at least one flower tree and one fruit tree in their courtyards and or backyards. That gives a very serene look to the whole village. In addition, most homes also have local herbal trees like Moringa, Aloe Vera and more in their kitsch gardens.

This year, Mr Farooq Ahmed from TTTC of AFA in Thatta Ghulamka Dheroka distributed the saplings in the Basic Health Unit.

One Baby One Tree

Like everyone else on our planet Earth, we in village Thatta Ghulamka Dheroka love protecting environment. Dr Senta Siller from SES turned this love into a beautiful tradition – one baby one tree.

What is one baby one tree? AFA (village NGO) gives floral and or fruit trees saplings to new mothers in the village every year. Result: each home in this small habitat has fruit and flower trees in their kitchen gardens. This is in addition to local herbal plants everyone in the village is so familiar with.

This year, Dr Senta Siller, who is in the village after 6 years, gave away saplings in the Basic Health Units. Here are some of the images from the event.

And it looks so good. Here are some of the impressions from tree distribution ceremony in BHU.

Dr. Senta Siller started the tradition and now thanks to Dr. Norbert Pintsch who is carrying on the work and traditions in the village. Celebrating traditions

I am glad to be a small part of beautiful tradition of one child one tree being practices by Thatta Kedona in remote Punjab village Thatta Ghulamka Dheroka (aka Dolls' Village) located at the bank of River Ravi near Gogera. The NGO AFA presents one fruit tree on the birth of a baby and one flower tree on a wedding. Results: almost every household in Thatta Ghulamka Dheroka has a fruit and flower tree in their yards (in addition to their own kitchen garden). And it looks so good; refreshing.

This year the beautiful ceremony of handing over fruit and flower trees and celebration of 18 years of tradition was held in BHU. Here are some of the images of the event. Everyone missed Dr. Senta Siller, the originator of the tradition, who could come due to her engagements in Germany. Thanks to Dr. Norbert Pintsch who is still carrying on the work and traditions in the village.[X-posted from Light Within]

One Baby One Tree

One Baby One Tree is one of the oldest traditions of Anjuman-e-Falah-e-Aama - the village NGO. A flower or fruit tree is presented on the birth of a baby in the family. As a result of this simple tradition, every home in the village now has a fruit and flower trees.

The in-charge of the Basic Health Unit keeps an exact record of all babies born in the village and gives the information to the head of the NGO, who then arranges saplings from the nursery to be used in the annual event called One Baby One Tree that is held in the village each year in the BHU.

Dr. Senta Siller – the founder of the project – had conceived and initiated two programs for increasing greenery in the village homes: one for the members of the Women Art Center and the other for the BHU Baby program. In this way, a very special type of vegetation has developed in the village houses. This year also, the program could be implemented with donations and help from volunteers.
